In Honor of Stupid People

  • On a Sears hair dryer — Do not use while sleeping. ( That’s the only time I have to work on my hair.)
  • On a bag of Fritos — You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. Details inside. (the shoplifter special?)
  • On a bar of Dial soap — “Directions: Use like regular soap.” (and that would be???….)
  • On some Swanson frozen dinners — “Serving suggestion: Defrost.” (but, it’s just a suggestion.)
  • On Tesco’s Tiramisu dessert (printed on bottom) — “Do not turn upside down.” (well…duh, a bit late, huh!)
  • On Marks &Spencer Bread Pudding — “Product will be hot after heating.” (and you thought????…)
  • On packaging for a Rowenta iron — “Do not iron clothes on body.” (but wouldn’t this save me time?)
  • On Boot’s Children Cough Medicine — “Do not drive a car or operate machinery after taking this medication.” (We could do a lot to reduce the rate of construction accidents if we could just get those 5 year-olds with head-colds off those bulldozers.)
  • On Nytol Sleep Aid — “Warning: May cause drowsiness.” (I’m taking this because???….)
  • On most brands of Christmas lights — “For indoor or outdoor use only.” (as opposed to what?)
  • On a Japanese food processor — “Not to be used for the other use.” (now, somebody out there, help me on this. I’m a bit curious.)
  • On Sainsbury’s peanuts — “Warning: contains nuts.” (talk about a news flash)
  • On an American Airlines packet of nuts — “Instructions: Open packet, eat nuts.” (Step 3: say what?)
  • On a child’s Superman costume — “Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly.” (I don’t blame the company. I blame the parents for this one.)
  • On a Swedish chainsaw — “Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands or genitals.” (Oh my God…was there a lot of this happening somewhere?)

BlogSphere 2.5.7

I am a little late with this, but wanted to mention some new options available in 2.5.7 . In the download block, a custom image can be used next to the download link. I happen to use the download image that comes with BlogSphere . You can also control the text in front if that is what you would like. This is option is available in the ‘Block Configuration’ section of the ‘Blog Configuration’. Blog Configuration The web polls also got a face lift. Here are some of the customization that you can now control, there is more. One of the big things is controlling how big and where the results window is. These options will appear in the new section ‘Poll Settings’ of the ‘Blog Configuration’. Poll Settings I think all of the text can be customized to your hearts content. The settings are available in the ‘Components’ section of your CSS. Here is just some of my CSS. Poll CSS Thanks to everyone who help me with the testing.

Reference Lookup 1.2.0

Mikkel Heisterberg implemented Open Audit in his Notes application and had a suggestion to improve how the log file can be located.  Currently Open Audit allows the audit to stay in the application’s database or saved in a different database, which I would suggest doing.  The replica ID or server & path can be used to determine where the audit log is located stemmed from Reference Lookup .  Mikkel’s suggestion was to use */ to represent the directory where the current database is located.  I liked the idea so much I had to incorporate it into the new version of Reference Lookup that you can download . As I named my alias ‘Relative Path’, I realized that ‘..’ (up directory) would be another nice option to add.  The up directory option will only work in conjunction with the */ syntax. Some Examples:
  • *\Log\audit.nsf
  • *\..\audit.nsf
  • App\Log\audit.nsf
Check out the ‘Using This Database’ for examples and code starters. So expect to see these same features in the next release of Open Audit , yes I am working on it.

Lotus User Group

I was looking for a good list of all the user groups for Lotus and this looks like the biggest list out there, but IBM Lotus has some additional groups on there list.  A bit of advice to myself: “Get involved!”  Yes, being involved in openNTF.org is great and having your own blog is also good, but nothing like meeting people.  I know that I have meet some people around the world through both, but I have to admit that I know very few people in my area that are involved in the technology that I enjoy.   Yes, Lotusphere is great place to meet people but that only happens once a year.  Your user group can be more personable because it is smaller and they meet more frequently.   Here is the list of the upcoming user group meetings and more.

I have a daughter

It is hard to believe after 4 boys that we were blessed with a daughter.  WOW!  I have been caught with my family and spending time with them, but have not forgot about you.  I am still working on a few things, so hopefully soon you will see some updates.  I sound like a >broken record.
